How does a small group of volunteers select the countries where it can help poor children? There are literally hundreds of countries with many millions of children that have severe needs for water, food, shelter, and safety, not to speak of education and economic opportunity. Africa, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, and even parts of the United States present enumerable situations where children are hurting. For us, the choices are easy if we simply allow ourselves to be open to what God is saying.
We currently have projects in three countries: Brazil, Ukraine, and Nicaragua. Brazil has the largest number of projects helping the most children, and we have visited there almost every year since 2004. Many of the projects are at crèches in Londrina, but we are expanding to the cities of Campinas and Curitiba. In Odessa, Ukraine we support a ministry that gives aid to children living on the streets, led by a Presbyterian pastor. In Nicaragua we have a partnership with several orphanages based in Managua.
